On Friday 4th of October 2013, Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Karen Hækkerup will be opening Denmarks largest event against food waste: United Against Food Waste.
The Copenhagen Town Hall Square will be filled with food stalls and between 2am and 6pm thousands of people of Copenhagen and tourists will be offered free delicious food produced by surplus food from the food industry and retailers.
In addition, visitors will experience engaged talks by CEO of Denmark’s largest agricultural organization Danish Agriculture & Food Council, Søren Gade, celebrity chef Bo Jacobsen and the international food expert Dr. Silvia Gaiani.Furthermore, the Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers, Dagfinn Høybråten, will present the first prizewinner of the design competition against food waste. Finally, will celebrity DJ, Master Fatman, provide the music and a great atmosphere throughout the day.
At the event, ‘United Against Food Waste’, among others, the following stakeholders will appear: Danish Agriculture & Food Council, Danish Agricultural Women (“Landbokvinder”), REMA 1000, Coop, Unilever Food Solutions, Alfred Pedersen & Son Tomatoes, Timm Vladimir’s Kitchen’s Grab'n'Cook. United Against Food Waste is powered by Stop Wasting Food movement Denmark (Stop Spild Af Mad) and is held under the umbrella of the world’s largest alliance against food waste, the EU-collaboration FUSIONS. Similar style of events are taking place all over the world, nevertheless, the event stands out due to of uniting both industry and the consumers, which is the first of its kind in Europe.
